Coventry Sphinx Youth Team are members of the Midland Floodlit Youth League and competes in the Premier Division.

They were promoted in May 2008 as runners up of the Eastern Division and are competing in the Premier Division for the very first time.

Former Manager John Woodward stepped up to become First Team Coach at the end of the 2007/08 season with former Coventry Copsewood Youth management duo Steve Shea and Neil Moran taking over in the summer of 2008.

Steve and Neil stepped down at the end of the 2008/09 season and they were replaced by Nigel Starkey who came up through the junior section with his team from under 10's and now through to the Youth team.

Under Nigel’s guidance the Youth team of 2010/11 made history when they reached the 2nd Second Round of the F.A. Youth Cup losing away to Swindon Town, they also were Runners-Up to Stourbridge in the Midland Premier Youth League.

Wayne Whitehouse became Youth Team Manager for the start of the 2011/12 season when Nigel stepped down to take up a role in the 1st team as a Coach. Wayne himself has come up through the junior ranks with his team from under 10’s.

The Youth Team has been very successful in recent years and is the natural progression for our junior players into senior football. Many of our first team squad who won the Midland Football Combination in May 2007 had progressed from our juniors through to the youth team.

In November 2006 the youth team played in the FA Youth Cup First Round Proper when we hosted Nottingham Forest here at Sphinx Drive in front of over 600 supporters and from that game defender Jack Pearson earned an 18 month contract with Nottingham Forest as a direct result of his performance in the FA Youth Cup.
