Sphinx Earn Vital Draw.....

by Randy Forder at Walshes Meadow

Stourport Swifts  0 v 2  Coventry Sphinx

Just when Sphinx thought they were going to get nothing out of this game up popped Matt Bannister with a deserved injury time equaliser.

Sphinx started the game with one change with Tom Dyke replacing the injured Kyran Johal. The game in the first half was nip and tuck for both sides with defences coming out on top. Sphinx back four were very solid marshalled well by the presence of 'Big' Ben Atkins. matt Bannister and Adam Bilic are starting to pick up a good rapour in midfield while the two front runners of Harry White and Ricky Cutting never gave the Stourport defence a minutes rest.

The second half was very much Sphinx half they went 1-0 down through a lack of cencentration leaving the Stourport centre half a easy goal line header after a failed clearance by Louis Guest. 6 weeks ago Sphinx would of caved in and lost the game by a bigger margin but they are made of sterner stuff and came back fighting and for the last 15 minutes were camped in Stourports half.

The Stourport keeper will not play a better game all season he pulled of top draw saves from Kyle Rhodes, Matt Bannister and Harry White and clawed a mis-hit shot from Louis Guest around the post. Sphinx might of thought it was going to be one of those days but up popped the impressive Matt Bannister to rifle a shot into the rigging on 90 minutes to give the Sphinx a deserved point against a team holding 2nd place in the league.

Sphinx are starting to become a well organised fit side and are starting to have some belief in there ability. Next week is another hard game away at Alvechurch to see if they can keep this revival going.
