Leg-ends On Display.....

24th September 2011

The were plenty of aching limbs after a very successful Legends game at Sphinx Drive. the game was ably officiated by a very biased according to Vic 'MY hamstring' Jones in favour of Sphinx Blue by Shaun 'No Card' Bivens.

Sphinx Yellow were first on the attack when Mick 'The Black Pearl' Callender was put through but his effort to the surprise of the capacity crowd was smothered by Ryan Fenton. It was wave after wave of Yellow attacks and when Charnley rosed-ish at the far stick and directed his header down and back across Fenton everyone thought it was the opening goal but not for Fenton who threw his svelte body across goal to fingertip the ball over the bar.

Tommos Impression Of A Plane......Concorde!!!

It was the Fenton show but there was one player who wanted a piece of the action and that came in the form of former Chairman Neil Long-eroz, he latched onto a through ball from Jim 'The Tattoo' McNulty and duly despatched past the on rushing Fenton. More was to come from Longeroz who showed just how you can miss from 10 yards out with the goal gaping....see pic

Action was end to end but unfortunately due to the request of copious amounts of water I missed the majority of the remaining 1st half with the half-time score 2-2

As you can imagine the old legs from the majority of players started to ache and tire. straight from kick off PC Tom Thacker got on the end of a lethargic sweeping move to put Sphinx Yellow 3-2 up, not to be out done Jimmy McNulty got on the end of a sweeping move that took 3 minutes to get from one end to the other to nod the ball past Chris 'I Am Retiring' Daffern to make it 3 a piece. Sphinx Blue soon opened up a 2 goal cushion with goals from Big Jack Cudworth and Wayne 'The Goal' Pulford. With the minutes ticking by Sphinx made an inspired substitution Vic 'Sunbed' Jones came off with no one coming on. Sphinx yellow pulled one back through Mick 'The Black Pearl' Callender and in the dying minutes Craig 'The Pro' Pead made the scores level after his 10th effort on goal.....if anyone finds any balls in the Aldermoor area they are from Peadys shots!!

Onto a penalty shoot out which after many successful attempts the Yellows won 2-1 with Longeroz the successful penalty taker. All in all a great bit of fun played in a great spirit and will surely be staged next year with St Johns Ambulance in attendance.

Man Of The Match must surely go to Ryan 'Banks' Fenton who pulled of save after save in the first in what was his first ever game of football.
